The weather on the islands is moderated by the Gulf Stream and although slightly cooler than other areas of the Caribbean, the weather is perfect for the beach almost every day of the year. Average temperatures in the summer range from 27 to 32 degrees centigrade and the winter temperatures are around 21 to 27 degrees centigrade. The rainy season is from May to October although the rain usually occurs in short showers followed again by clear blue skies. Many people visit in the winter to escape their own winter at home as the Berry and Bimini Islands are a year round destination.

Travel to and around the Berry and Bimini Islands

South Bimini Airport is the only airport serving both Bimini Islands. You can book daily scheduled flights from Nassau Grand Bahama Island or Florida and charter services can also be arranged through the certified local or international carriers. If you are feeling adventurous and are not in a hurry, you could arrange to travel with the weekly mail boat from Nassau to Cat Cay and Alice Town. Getting around Bimini once you have arrived will usually mean getting taxis or buses as cars are limited due to the size of the island. The main form of transport on the island is by golf cart, or you could choose to rent a moped or bicycle. The Bimini tram operates a daily service between 6am and 6.30pm and a frequent ferry service between North and South Bimini is available for $2 each way.

The Berry islands have two major airports, Great Harbour Cay Airport and Chub Cay Airport, which is private but still an official port of entry. Daily scheduled flights are available from Nassau, Grand Bahama and Florida to Great Harbour Cay and as with Bimini, charter services can be arranged as can travel with a weekly mail boat from Nassau to Bullocks Harbour. On great Harbour Cay you can rent cars, bicycles, golf carts or scooters and a taxi service is also available to get around the island. The other Cays in the Berry islands are easily reached by a frequent ferry service from from Great Harbour Cay to Little Stirrup Cay and Great Stirrup Cay for $20 round trip.
