Catherine MacLeay

Catherine MacLeay Catherine MacLeay was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada July 10, 1960. (This fact alone makes her a natural for The Bahamas; July 10th is Bahamian Independence Day) Cathy has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science Degree and a primary teaching certificate while specializing in Dyslexia. Shortly after graduating university Cathy arrived in The Bahamas to teach for the Bahamian government then with the Central Anglican Education Authority. That was way back in 1988. After spending 13 years in the teaching profession, Cathy decided to expand her horizons and jumped into the exciting world of real estate. Incidentally, Cathy's last teaching post was as a primary teacher at Lucaya International School. She continues to maintain close contact with LIS as her children are still in attendance.

Cathy's first love is the water and has spent many an hour both on top and below the turquoise waters of The Bahamas. She swam competitively at the national and international levels in Canada for 10 years. Cathy continued her involvement in the sport once she arrived in Freeport. She worked as an assistant coach for the Freeport Wave Runners and was asked to serve as an assistant coach for the Bahamas Games. She continues to officiate at swim meets whenever she can.

While still in the Great White North, Cathy began scuba diving. Where else would one learn to dive but in the frigid waters of Lake Superior? Cathy began managing a dive store, convincing many a northerner of wonders beneath the waves. By the time she left Canada, she was working on her assistant instruction certification. Once Cathy jumped into the tepid Bahamian seas she was converted- no more dry or wet suits for her! A t-shirt and sunscreen was all the protection she needed from the elements from now on.

Cathy is married to Dave Mackey, former bass player for the popular Bahamian group T-Connection and now manager 100 JAMZ as well as co-founder of the increasing popular web-based e-newsletter www.thebahamasweekly.com . They have two beautiful children, Cameron and Sierra and have rounded out their menagerie with Whisky Jack the cat ( very Canadian eh) , Choklit Moose, the chocolate Labrador and Nilla Puddin the Golden Retriver.

Cathy joined James Sarles Realty in 2001 as his first agent. Cathy is deeply committed to her clients. Offering her full attention to all she meets. She believes in helping her clients find the most appropriate property. She is particularly mindful of how newcomers to The Bahamas feel. Cathy recognizes how important it is to learn the "rules of engagement" once you arrive in a new county with different customs and attitudes. Cathy is here to help. She remembers her trepidations upon first stepping on these tranquil shores. She is always ready to assist her clients whether they are a renter or a buyer. She can help you find anything from a new hair dresser to which school or babysitter is the most appropriate for their child.

Cathy's philosophy is quite simple; you can expect nothing less than honest, ethical and professional behavior with a sincere concern for those she meets. She looks forward to meeting you, give her a call!
