Community Spirit

Although the second largest city in The Bahamas, with a population of approximately 40,000, Freeport still has the heart of a small town. It is a warm and friendly place, eager to welcome visitors and new residents with open arms. There are abundant opportunities to get involved as a community volunteer or as a member of one of the many service clubs and civic organizations that raise funds and provide support for local education, youth, social and environmental projects. As in most island communities, people look out for each otherthere is a close-knit spirit that brings everyone together to help in times of need. Grand Bahama also has an international flavour to the community, with so many people finding their way to the island from different parts of the world. Expatriates from the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Europe, and various parts of the Caribbean make for a very cosmopolitan and interesting gathering place. Grand Bahama is a community with deep spiritual roots and a strong commitment to their churches and charitable work. A predominantly Christian nation, there are a large number of churches, synagogues, and temples representing every faith.
